five minute friday: again

It's Friday. That means that for five minutes a bunch of souls plunk out words without editing or second guessing, and I'm thrilled to join in and write along with them.

Today's word?

again

Here goes:

-------

He says it every single time we head out to the car. "Can I drive?"

Because he got his learner's permit this week. One day after this boy was eligible by age, he took that test and got that slip of paper. He would have gone and gotten it the day he was eligible, but things like holidays happen and offices are closed.

And that boy whose birth made me a mother now asks it again, and again, and again...

"Can I drive?"

I let him. And again. And even still again.

He's driven me just a bit crazy with the asking, and driven me daily on winding skinny roads, and I'm surprised at how thrilling it is for me, and how fun to see this boy growing into his man-skin.

It looks to fit just fine.

We'll head out the door later, to go to a class or a practice or just to pick up the milk and bread, and I know he'll ask it again. "Can I...?"

And I'll say yes. Again.

--------STOP---------

  1. Totally true..."I'm surprised at how thrilling it is for me, and how fun to see this boy growing into his man-skin." I feel the same way...my son just got his license.
