Catholic Woman's Almanac - volume 20

On Mondays, I take stock of things and remember things important.

With these lovely ladies...

Moments of Gratitude

...recipes that turn out great...
...early morning walks...
...splotches of sunlight on the wood floors...
...dishes to wash and meals to cook and a family who needs all of these things...
...boys who are learning to drive (oh - this is so very fun!!)...
...silly sitcoms and kids who laugh at them...
...girls all dressy and boys all fancy in suits at that special banquet celebrating a marching band season done well...
...a new set of strings for my violin, it sounding all new and sweet again...
...colder-than-cold snow crunching underfoot...
...medicine that makes husbands-who-feel-miserable feel better...
...arms that can work and do the chores and legs that can carry me out to feed chickens and drive to the store...
...clean water (why do I not count this as blessing more, knowing that some only dream of this?)...
...my daily-dose-of-the-Word: reading Scripture every. single. morning. Because this changes you...

Beauty in the Ordinary

Just a simple pound cake, with a few berries.

So ordinary. So simple.

It's not really the "beauty" I wish to share in picture-form - but it is the only picture I have of that evening of sharing time and watching silly movies - respite from the daily striving to do more and be more.

This simple beauty (a lowly pound cake! a cartoon! a board game!) is what I want to remember. What I want my children to remember.

From the Kitchen

I am missing Disney World. More specifically, I am missing the food from Disney World. Okay - not the fried "Magic Kingdom Fast Food Fare", but the good stuff. Mostly the food I had in Epcot at Morocco.

So this week it's been "all Moroccan, all the time". My kids are sick of spicy food by now, I'm sure.

I'm not. Yet.

Praying

For my son and a whole host of other young people who will be making their Confirmation this Spring. That they rightly choose, with full knowledge and acceptance of this faith (and not blindly), to confirm their faith in the Catholic Church. And for their catechists - for their wisdom, and for their patience, and for God to bless them exceedingly for their willingness to witness to and share with and teach this faith to my child and his peers.

~~~
Meditating
On this saying:  "SLOW DOWN...LIFE IS NOT AN EMERGENCY".
And trying daily to live what I really do believe is a truth.
~~~

Pondering

Life choices. Mine, chiefly.

I'm feeling a pull (push?) lately, to make a change. Should I risk the unknown - step out on faith and change (what is really, if I'm honest here, not working)? Or should I opt for safe and stay where I'm comfortable?

Reading

A Little Daily Wisdom (Christian Women Mystics) by Carmen Acevedo Butcher.

A little. Daily. Still.

Memorizing

Ephesians 4: 25-32.

Just about there!

Pinned

Oh I love this - Jesus, Music, Grace? All in one?

Perfect!

Looking Ahead

This week ahead? It's a full one! Gearing up to begin Music Theory with a private tutor, and I'm giving voice lessons now too - scheduling is tricky, but still do-able. One son visiting a specialist to talk about wisdom-teeth-extraction (yikes!), one son begins the first full week of rehearsals for the musical he's been cast in. Oh, and yes - the weather is going to turn and we're going to get milder temperatures this week, so we're taking a day off from school and goin' skiing!

~~~
~Could I just say it now - this one thing that I really need to tell you, that you really just need to know?
So. Beautiful.
Shine on!
  1. Oh good for you with Ephesians! I am disappointed with my memorization right now, but encouraged to make a new commitment to it.
    Ah the scriptures...my daily transformation takes place at night instead of early morning. Such a precious part of my day.
    1. It is precious, this "daily transformation"! And just like manna, I've really learned that it needs gathering daily.
    1. Change is hard, yes. I tell my children that change is how we grow...I just need to keep reminding myself!
  6. Pondering....I say go for it...take the leap and if it's the wrong leap, you tried.
    I always think if "I" make the wrong choice...He'll lead me back to the right one. <3
    Great week and the pound cake looks so yummy!
  7. Ah, but change can also be exciting, exhilarating. It charges the mind, it stirs the soul!
    'Moroccan food'= bliss.
